contains less than 1% juice – now we’re talking… however it didnt say its organic juice concentrate ……… S-H-iiiiii-T
smell: mint
taste: mint green tea with some sugar(total 10g/bottle), not much tannin, however nothing that would remind me of “PU-ERH” …im not even going to polute my lonely puerh category with this. And definitely nothing appealing for me to buy this again.

Pure Black Teas’ Tea .Ito En
May 23, 2009 at 11:59 am | Posted in Black Tea, Darjeeling, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 4 CommentsFound at a store on Park ave Manhattan … $2.5+tax! … got it only because i never had before
Flavor+aroma: a little fruity-flowery with a black tea tannin with that darjeelingy “twist”, medium astringency.
Overall: GOOD !! yay 😀 good bootled black tea, tastes like darjeeling, i see myself getting plenty of this, if its around 1.5$. Flavor is not as fine & refined and has more astringency and tannin as compared to my memory of ItoEn’s Weil for tea Darjeeling (discontinued) can.
Anyway that will make a good addition to the bottled teas list … i’d put it on #2, but right now i be feeling it a bit more enjoyable than Tejava… so there you go
Pure Black you have taken the #1 spot !!!
of bottled black tea
in my world of tea enjoyment,
probably will be there for a good while.
.*`’; fireworks ‘”#%!`’.
ps. itoen please change the label on these bottles, i’m appreciating them as plain and inconspicuous. barely noticed there was a plain black between the rest of the teas’ tea bottles – the color of the tea kind is very non contrasty with that blue background and those colored lines distract my eye (i know, i’m very important in the world of ad design and tea packaging)… also pls keep it simple and dont go overboard with all the natural antioxidant bs. that wont matter when people want to drink and they dont have money.

#2 of 2 from their “shot” lineup, the other being Sencha Shot
package contains the regular antioxidant doctors and other uhm goo intended to help sell it as a “health aide”. Label’s been slightly changed since 2 years ago,
now the polyphenol type stands out all contrasty and stuff, esp the blue next to the red… with a heavy red box on the can surely draws the eye … all this shiz – rather offending to my eyes, instead of something meaningful like what kind of oolong this is, when was it manufactured, some story about the monkeys that picked the leaf or whatever… eh… i didnt even bother to flip the can and read it, so maybe there is a story about monkeys – no there isnt, but there is a image of a monkey on the can…
Smell: light toast oolong tgy
Flavor: flavor is medium of a roasted tgy – not bad. some mild astringency and some overinfused tannin but mild.
Overall: not bad, too expensive, generic dark oolong- borderline better than regular bottled one, not interesting like the DJ they took out… not majorly any better than the rest of available oolongs:
- UCC Oolong Tea
- Suntori Oolong Tea – see below.
- Bombilla & Gourd Pure Oolong – itoen is less tannin and astringent on the tongue/ AFAIR (as far as i remember)
- Golden Oolong ItoEn – slightly better than this
- Adagio Teas Anteadote Organic Oolong Tea

Flavor: some tannin, liquid… mild flavor of …something, maybe some mild (sugarless)honey-like, not roasted. not very weird, but not very enjoyable either.

Package: i actually got it because it announces on its label: “Tea leaves are brewed for 11 minutes” – such honesty never been seen on a RTD bottle i figured there must be some translation mistake, or that’s how RTD companies really make bottled teas (btw i emailed Itoen on that a couple days ago, no response yet ;)). Also the bottle seems to be made of aluminum.
Smell: tiny- fruity sweet?!?
Flavor: green tea, cant say what kinds… there’s a citric twist to the flavor but not a citric-vitamin C property to the liquid itself… if i can put that in words… There’s minimal tea tannin or astringency. There is a tiny strangeness to this drink…. i mean it tastes alright, low astringency – which should make me happy (and reminded me of the weil line of itoen teas)… but it fails to excite my tastebuds … i cant put my finger on it… i think for ease of expression: the flavor is somewhat off? to what i would “recognize” as green tea… sorry dong won. Cant sense any roasted or pan fried as i can in itoen’s. i think its all got something to do with that ascorbic acid or whatnot- even tho it doesn’t feel strong, something is off-ing the flavors…
Overall: not bad, but i’m not fond of the flavor. or price.

very busy label-packaging: annoying. Black+Green TEA largest… even tho it barely tastes as such.
Flavor: somewhat sweet (15g/serving, “About 2 Servings” <— !?! = 30g sugar in 480 mL, total drink is 547ml), some “citric flavor” (not lemon/orange/grapefruit), some mild berry flavor,
no idea where green OR black tea flavor is at… cant sense any in the aroma either…
Overall: not bad, i enjoyed it more than snapple’s acai thing, but does not taste like tea to me 😦

organic. not sure when tea became inorganic but yeah… i was also wanting to buy the jumbo eggs, and one of the workers at WF kept suggesting the organic jumbo eggs: “those are organic” pointing to the brown ones. “alright”, and i grab the chicken layered, white, inorganic, calcium shells, filled with pre-embryonic nutritive goo. uh… the dingo ate your inorganic baby ms. inorganic chicken. leave it to people to redefine a word and make money off it…
Flavor: citric acid (“lemon-like sensation”) combined with a pack of tannins = quite astringent (and dry mouth feel). overinfused feel. Some low tea “flavor” when letting air pass out the nose. also present: a sort of roasted? sensation/id go even to say some faint tobacco in the nose…. ugh…
Overall: i don’t like it. no list for you.

Made by Famous House Food Industrial Corp. another Taiwanese drink. no french on the can this time. Not called “drink” on the label, but by me – its got sugar in it.
Flavor: very light on the sugar – nice. some medium-low “generic” roast tgy flavor(yah, ‘cos i’m the tgy expert, lol); not sure because very faded but seems to have a grain quality to me.
Overall: No: low flavor, even tho low on sugar it leaves alot of unpleasant sugar “aftertaste”.

As their green tea did not satisfy me
i was naturally & organically a little suspicious,
but here it is:
Smell: off to a good start: some sort of dark oolong !
Taste: there is a sufficient amount of astringency/tannin (not bitterness) on the tongue but its not overpowering. Follows a dark oolong flavor, maybe a ‘generic’ wuyi or TGY?…may be something else, i cant type it. The tannin then leaves a dry sensation on the tongue and throat. Can’t feel any of the vit C/ascorbic in the flavor (it might be mixed/covered by the tannin), but there are no other weird flavors or chemical tastes. … it does taste like a ‘pure oolong tea’, on my tongue. As for the quality of the tea leaf used i cant say because i dont consume as much dark oolong as other tea types.
Overall: this is very nice as i see it and I’d have no problem buying this again. …dont remember the other bottled oolongs i have on my RTD tea List, but i’ll put it on top for now.

i passed on the store brand bottled teas… The itoen teas tea bottles i’ve seen at all the Targets i been to, $3.99/2L is your best choice here.
pics unedited, sorry ’bout the darkness, color, tilt.
Label: “malt beverage” with “brewed tea” …what sort of beer weirdness is this ? …but i got it anyway.
Aroma: pop the top: smell like almost nothing
Taste: sweet –> some sort of lemon? + bubbley feeling + alcohol throat and sting in mouth. + sweetness.
… this tastes more like some sort of a alcoholic soda than either beer or tea anything… eeh. I know what it reminds me of: Mike’s Hard Lemonade.. same sort of feeling – different sort of taste, more Shitty for Smirnoff, More Better for Mike’s Beer lemonade.
Overall: crapola. No. not even if needing of getting drunk.

Grabbed this tea from the RocheBros supermarket, probably ~ 1.5$. Their other products (Tradewinds) had kettle brewed and such words, and a big container of kettle brewed tea that looked VERY similar to Trader Joes, visually, maybe its not the same thing.
Taste: SHWEET. that’s all folks.
some reminder of a honey-like sensation, but maybe just me. mostly sweet sugar sweetness. (not as sweet as i make it seem, i love sugar btw if i didn’t say it in another post.) and maybe some reminder of black tea, but it was just barely there. at least no lemon showed up.

Smell: mint ! nice.
Taste: pretty strong mint, nice mix of mint + lemon + sugariness. No bitterness, doesn’t feel like over-extracted mint. The lemon/citric acid is here but it blends very well.
Overall: i really liked this mix. I drank it all in a short time. I liked it much better than the Honest Tea bottle.

Oolong superb, Katsura golden (do you ruled O)

…onto flavors and somesuch: Tasty like a sorta roasted(dark) oolong TGY? , but that oolong flavor is kinda low 1/3 of total, rest is sortof astringent/tannin …some goes in the aftertaste on tongue mouth & posterior pharynx.

Asahi ! hope i didnt buy some alcoholic tea 😀
Got home, tasted it, …. hey… not green tea…
Peek better at the english translation:
GREEN TEA ASAHI KURO CHA
ingredients: Puaru Tea, Jasmin Tea, Vitamin C
… puaru… well… that kinda sounds like puer… 😛
found the JP product page, which google translates as:
Feature: “Chikara born aged, black tea”
With time and maturity-fermented green tea “black tea”, through the use of the unique flavor of deep rich can enjoy a cup of tea.
● aged fermented green tea “black tea” Pu-erh tea (Yunnan Province, China produced) and a deep rich flavor仕立てました.
● de Sukkiri to finish it easier to drink, jasmine tea (China-producing province of Fujian) blends.
● fragrances unpigmented
OK….so its a black tea either that or aged black/puerh + jasmine…? no? yes? I’ll classify it as an RTD puerh.
Smells a little of jasmine but doesnt carry into taste (a little… but its very faded),
Taste: some roasted sensation…either roasted corn…maybe barley-like?. Aftertaste sorta seems to remind of (shu) pu-erh… but its faded. There is some medicinal flavor(more apparent when the tea is cold). But flavors blend pretty well together and has an interesting profile (except for the medicinal part). Didnt notice any unpleasant astringency/biterness (or i forgot).
Overall: Not bad, its different, @ 2$ on the expensive side. of a 0.5L bottle. Get again: YES.

tho it says on the label its made with Black Tea….
If i’ve tried American peach teas (Peach Tea .Lipton, Giant Peach Juiced Tea .Tazo, Summer Peach Iced Tea .Snapple, Peach oo-la-long .Honest Tea) why not see how Japanese tea people do it…
Taste: … FRUIT ! i am pretty sure this is the closest of the bottled Teas to a real fruit taste i’ve had (Giant Peach from Tazo is my favorite of the bunch, but i can’t remember details to compare which was the fruityest)….remembering childhood …having peach compote (fruit boiled in water + sugar).(note: the word is compote, no relation to compost.)
so, Fruit + fruit tangy/tart in the mouth, sugar is medium-low = can feel sweetness but its not dominant. It feels very fruity-real to me (haven’t had peach in a while tho).
I don’t taste/feel anything weird (citric/strangeness.)
Some aftertaste, some from sugar, a fruity sense on the palate, tongue… its not watery, and i feel i want to drink more (or maybe its the heat).
Almost forgot: no tea taste …. maybe its in the aftertaste feel combined with the sugar, but very not present at all.
very satisfying on this hot day…

May 27, 2008 at 12:53 pm | Posted in Herbal Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commentAs i was saying in my previous assam bottle post. NYC, WholeFoods, Central Park. Hot. Sun. Baking. No sunscreen. Oops. Burning. Ouchie.
I think i see a space in the yerbamate on the label so this post is called yerba & nbsp ; mate… profound.
This was 1 out of about 3 unsweetened, unmixed, unflavored bottled teas at Wholefoods, not a good day… Whole Foods needs to hire me. I want that 20% off employee discount. I’ll buy more unsweetened unflavored bottled teas than they sell to 100 people.
Onto the main feature:
Taste: WTF?! salt ?! WHATF ? … SALTY ?? EEECHHCHCHBEECHH…. i actually flipped over the bottle and there it was on its back label : SODIUM 11mg x 2 = 22mg (how much is that in grains of salt?)
+ taste low of yerbamate, a better dilution of flavor than others have achieved…
some of the naturally lemony i think of the mate,
but its just Nasty To Me, i can’t take the salty weirdness . eeeechhhhhyness. i did drink it all tho. i just couldnt believe my tastebuds, and everytime, “there it was”, “there it was”, “there it was”, “there it was”… weirdly torturing myself, and still don’t believe !
Overall: gee… toughie but quickie, SALTY DRINK = NO.
ps. ok it says “a grain of salt is about 5.85×10^-5 grams” so 1 grain = 0.0585mg, from which you calculate that 22mg salt = 376 grains of salt. (also in theory, a grain of NaCl is a cube of 0.3mm sides, sqrt376=19, so which leads to 22mg pure salt being approx a solid salt cube of 5.7×5.7×5.7mm).

Disappointingly, Whole Foods had a really bad stock of bottled teas this day, just itoen green-white, the others were mixed bullcrap sweetened and herbal bs energy bs vitamin boosting health organic natural crap. Of which i did get some – bottled yerbamate.
I did want to try something new so… got this which looked more “normal” even tho it had a little tiny bit of “sugar” on the label, and i don’t have such a good experience with Honest teas.
Taste: cold. mmm. well. not that bad on the citric additive – doesn’t taste that lemony. As for the black tea taste… uhm… there is …some… black tea taste… barely perceptible tho, couldn’t really say “assam yes !”, more like… “oh, this is probably black tea”. … didn’t sense any sugar. not much astringency.
Overall: not that bad, not nasty as others, but not much flavor either. pick between this and water? … water.

smell: some lemon & … fruit? medication?… a smell i cant pinpoint, need a word, having lapse in memory.
taste:
liquid,
no sugar (labeled 10g total),
astringency/bitterness
no green tea
mint? what mint, oh yeah, hmmm. well there is some mint aftertaste after the bitterness goes.
this feels like they over brewed the mint and components too long until the plant taste started to give it this bitterness. also theres not enough mint in this. maybe other components are interacting and diminishing it.
update: i added sugar: nice and sweet now – much better – some minty flavor but not like fresh looseleaf tea (did they use enough mint ???). there isnt much nasty sugar aftertaste. some freshness from the mint in the aftertaste. pretty good now!!!
how much mint etc compared to some real fresh loose tea? somewhere around 1/2
i really dont get it. either these people dont know how to make something good (that i could like) or they’re trying to make something that will just sell.

and much wasn’t found.
Looked nice, thick (3.78L=1gal), and more cost effective (around $3.7) next to the awesome Tejava bottled tea ($1.70, 1L), also the “kettle brewed” sparked some minor interest.
Opent bottle, whatcha think it smells like? yeah, the lemon smell of citric acid.
Whatcha think it tastes like? yeah, the ****ing lemon taste of whatever makes it taste like lemon…citric acid?
This is some watery brown colored lemonade with some shitty ass watery black tea scraped from the bottom of long lost barrels arrived on the tea ship from friggin who knows where.
tea taste…? well, if you’d distillate the entire gallon, then you’d probably get about 1 cup of black tea. the shitty black tea they used to make this shitty dirty ass waterylemonade shit. 😡
having said that. i’ll drink the whole bottle, just to see if my pee turns brown.
update: couldnt guzzle more than 1/3 of it. if i look at it one more time i’m gonna be sick.
ps. my pee . – still yellow. then, . my liver just destroyed caramel color of 1/3 gallon. thx. i’d rather drink cola for that.

February 24, 2008 at 4:10 pm | Posted in Green Tea, just green tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commentfound at Ito En’s Flagship Store. *discontinued*
Aroma: very light, couldn’t really tell what it is. sort of sweet.
Taste: light roasted, green tea (couldn’t pinpoint what, not real clear), sort of softness? very very mild astringency(it doesnt feel over-infused as their other bottled teas, like oi ocha, even teas tea.)
Overall: Good but flavor too mild for me and even with the lack of astringency i prefer their oi ocha japanese green. also too expensive (as this entire Weil for tea line is, $1.9/can (245ml)… i like their Darjeeling better.)

Aroma: mild smell, maybe DJ
Taste: wow, this is very very nice. I’m not your usual fan of DJ so this is kind of surprising to me(i liked it!)
A good, well defined flavor. The taste has a couple components, so its not monotonous. It reminds me of the darjeeling base from my favorite earl grey.
This is not overly infused as most bottled teas thus you get almost NO astringency/briskness !! just a clean tea flavor.
Ofcourse this doesn’t taste as strong as a fresh infused loose leaf tea, but they managed to create something very good.
i wouldn’t have guessed this is a bottled/rtd tea!
Overall: Wonderful ! pricing aside ($1.9/can (245ml)…!!), i would definitely get this. I hope they can package this in larger sizes, and make it cheaper. anywho, it goes on the list.
Too bad they had to put Weil’s name on it. This would have sold without it. ok, maybe not as much. maybe it will help to getting it in more supermarkets? i hope so.
Organic Black Currant bottled Black Tea .Harney and Sons
February 11, 2008 at 5:37 pm | Posted in Black Tea, Herbal Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commentFlavor: alot of “stuff” in this liquid: citrus front of mouth, straight down the tongue in the back some berry-like sort of bitter-sour, “foody”, licking the palate and tongue can feel a lingering sweetness from the added sugar (but there is almost no other sugar feel), cant really feel the honey as in their bottled Black Tea.
Alot of aftertaste around the mouth-palate: mostly a sort of sourness like after drinking black tea with sugar + the berry flavor, + a little more citrus leftovers… = unpleasant to me, feels like mouth is dirty. Only in the empty mouth, can i feel some vague distant reminders of some sort of black tea flavor.
i dont know what currant is, but i read its some kinda berry. anyway. this is some kinda black tea.
Overall: alot better composition and flavor than Snapple’s Acai thing (surprisingly i now read almost the same words in that review), but i dont like it, mostly due to aftertaste, and no tea flavor.
oh yeah, price like their other: 2.4$ (this time found at Au bon pain)

i guess it could, since i left out the coconut ginger part…
smell: start with this because it disturbed me: pickled cabbage aroma… nice one ! i then was afraid to drink it… but i talked myself into it: “Come on old man, you LOVE cabbage” , “DOOO IT !!!!” OH MY GOD I CANT STOP SMELLING THAT !!!!!!!!!!!!
…
taste: pink. huh? dunno, just popped in my mind (maybe i associate bangkok, oh wait the label is pink). again as in the previous taste: their Black Currant: alot of “stuff” in the liquid: sourness, this time some clear bitterness (low, but it bothers me). i couldn’t really tear apart into precise flavors, dont care :: i dont like it. THE END.
update: had to comeback and +add this: alot of nasty aftertaste…. BOOOOOOO !!!
how about i transport you back to the store and get my $2.4 back, and that 5 minutes spent in line…
oh crap, i think im getting some diarrhea………… no… false alarm.
Japanese Green Tea (oi ocha) 2L bottle .Ito En
February 10, 2008 at 4:44 pm | Posted in Green Tea, just green tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 4 CommentsThis is your big boy, brother of its little sibling oiocha .5L
the most liters of clean bottled tea one can buy… in the WORLD !!!!
and its pretty good taste too !
Pkg: nice and symetric, contains just green tea and vitamin c (works to keep it good). very low level of bullshit on antioxidants etc.
Price: in my little supermarket … 6$ , sort of expensive, might be better priced elsewhere with more population, like Manhattan/Chinatown/Flushing.
Taste: green tea – the type which tastes roasted-toasty-pan-fried, astringency (medium-mild). Not quite as clear taste as a fresh looseleaf brew.
Compared to others, cant really say much difference: Pokka’s can of green tea seemed more defined, Tea’s Tea green (still ito en) seemed less astringent, Adagio’s Green seemed less defined, with a weird little tiny flavor in there.
Overall: the best bottled tea out there (in the USA, in a 2L pkg)
*no, ito en doesn’t pay me in moneys, stocks or free shit. i just like their product.

Dont remember having this before, so i thought i’d give it some tongue time.
Was imagining it to be like the ItoEn’s OiOcha Green Tea but it went like this:
flavor: green tea on the roasted/fried flavor side, no nasty baggy tastes, astringency is low and blends nice with the green flavor. The Pokka’s Japanese Green Tea had a more of a crispy grassy green flavor.
overall: GOOD! i like it. you go on the list.

January 27, 2008 at 12:09 pm | Posted in Black Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commentfound at Whole Foods Market . $2.4 … !
flavor: black tea, some faint sweetness, not much astringency (i suppose from the sugars that cover it), and some mild honey flavor (i thought the black tea tasted like honey, but it was on the strong side- so i looked on the label, and yup, there it was….it pissed me off, along with all the sugar and other shit it has). It finishes with some citric/lemon in the back/backsides of the mouth. But no more other weird tastes…
lets count the words on the front label:
master tea blenders
fine teas
harney & sons
master tea blenders
organic black
crisp pure
energizing black tea
made from fresh brewed tea
16floz 473ml
ok, now… crisp & pure fresh brewed, i then imagine the contents are ‘pure black tea’ and ‘citric acid’…right… lets see:
triple filtered water
contains less than 2% of organic cane sugar
organic honey
brewed from select organic black tea
ascorbic acid
citric acid
sodium citrate
alright. so. wtf… can i just get some of that “PURE” BLACK TEA ???… gd bullshit.
overall: not bad, not bad, not sugary, but deceptive front label. It will go on the bottled tea list.

no organic on this label, yay.
label is crooked stretched and rotated…
Liquor: golden-yellow.
Smell: faint
Taste: some faint astringency-tannin back of throat/tongue, then swishing around feel “roasted-toasted fried” green tea taste – ok, tastes mildly-faint like tea. no medicinal flavors, no citric acid-lemon. But… after tasting the 4 teas from them i have to say there is sort of a faint funky flavor in there, in all them bottles… its not the lemon taste, its a weird faint medicinal maybe kind of funk…
Faint aftertaste, but doesn’t feel completely watery, some remnants on tongue and back of throat but again, faint.
Overall: taste is fainter version of their anteadote green. not a fan of this white one.

Package: Product of China. no “organic” wording on this one… nice 🙂 the label is really crooked, rotated on a corner… (if its the chinese packing plant, they should slap them around with a large trout.)
Liquor: dark-brown, smells a little sweet, reminds me of assam.
Flavor: black tea taste about medium strength, astringency is low! feels like a sortofa mixture maybe, assam-ish something. *** apparently after a little live chat on their website, they say its just Yunnan gold black tea (oops, its there too, on teh label…i should clean my glasses, …i should buy some glasses to have some to clean) … i really have to wonder where my tea tongue is at… oh yeah, here it is:
to me it tastes like an assam/sortof wine-y, maybe if i stretch it i would place it with this Yunnan Pure Small Bud Black Tea Gold Tips from Yunnan Sourcing but this bottled tea i dont feel any tobacco-ish-ness-y in it.
The bottle label says something of ‘smooth peppery taste’ <– what the f* that means i dont know. there is no pepper of any kind in this tea, i’m pretty sure, i just went and sprinkled some on my tongue.
…after tasting, i find there is a weird little flavor i cant describe-maybe faintly medicinal, but i think its there, like in their green tea bottle.
Not much aftertaste, but doesn’t feel completely watery, some remnants on tongue and back of throat.
Overall: taste is medium, ok, not bad, if found in a store i’d buy it, but if Tejava was there… i pick Tejava Premium iced tea bottle-which is more crisp, strong, defined, astringent. should i put this one on the Favoritea Bottled tea list… well ok, there isnt much choice out there…

aye had nothing to drink, thought to lick on something new,
supposedly contains fresh brewed/as opposed to stale brewed black tea (originating from south america- everyone knows southamerica is where the good black tea is made)…heres the lipton (i like them, they really try to stock every goddamn supermarket with their brand, hey ITOEN WTF ARE YOUR PEOPLE WAITING FOR???)
flavor: the citrus/lemon sensation around mouth dominates, sweetness, astringency, some tea flavor but low- still tasteable tho. some cruddy aftertaste from the sugar. the diet version has splenda if you care to know.
compared to Tazo’s Black Tea Lemonade, Lipton’s has little more black tea flavor, and less pronounced citrus.
compared to Snapple’s black tea (the earl grey), Lipton’s has little more black tea flavor, but its a small difference.
i must say, it didn’t hit like swallowing a porcupine- doesnt have such a horrible citrus /lemon spike in the tongue as i expected. overall the taste is mellow, it didnt turn out so bad. not bad mr vaseline. im still not going to put you on my list 🙂 until you come out with a no sugar no splenda/other sweetener tea.

after sticking tongue down many similar ‘tea’ drinks you know what to expect
1: lemon taste up the wazoo, citrusy all over the mouth, i admit it does taste a little better of a lemonade, maybe because its “NOT FROM CONCENTRATE”
2: it has sugar 20g/8oz so its a sweet lemonade
3: there’s Waldo?… uhhh… i mean somewhere in the citrusy depths of the liquid one can find with difficulty the taste remains of tea. more like can feel some faded tea flavor after the liquid is swallowed. swishing it around in the mouth i cant really feel anything tea-like due to the strong citrus experience.
buy again: i didnt want to buyit the first time, so i stole it from a little child who cried afterwards from not getting the daily dose of natural organic antioxidants that will counter the effects of the 2 slices of pizza 1 hamburger and 2fists of re-used oil deep fried fries, …and the 3 donuts at breakfast (no. thats not a metaphor of what i had to eat, i ate all natural organic fair trade broccoli, picked by low paid dirty&diseased illegal border-crossing spanish-speaking residents-of-Mexico. oh well, it wasnt that healthy, topped some with cheese, melted, just to make sure the antioxidants have work to do.)

July 7, 2007 at 10:26 am | Posted in Green oolong, Oolong Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commentHere we have your oolong tea brewed hot with your best parameters, then poured into bottle and stored in the fridge.
#1 was the high mountain king of oolong. <SO-SO>
next day, tea is cold indeed, seems that mild astringency is #1 sensation, floweryness seems lost (maybe coldness impairs the feel). as its getting towards room temp, floweryness seems to make a comeback but not as crisp and nice,
not much other flavors, taste is rather dull.
#2: cold high top oolong. < GOOD COLD>
good flavor, mild astringency replaced by the ‘roasted’ type of flavor, and extra flavors i cant describe.
reminds of one of the bottled oolongs i tried… might be the oi ocha from ito en… but mine is better for less astringency and more flavor.
this one tastes good cold.
Snapple Peach iced tea mixed/ blended with yunnan black looseleaf tea
July 2, 2007 at 3:24 pm | Posted in RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews, Yunnan | Leave a commentso i thinks… lets try some mixing today…. hoping to make snapple iced tea TASTE LIKE TEA,
but i was wrong. dont know what snapple puts in its drink, but its so strong it blocks all other tastes… this sweet citrusy/lemon, mildly astringent liquid…
8oz snapple + 1 tbsp yunnan black loose tea (now i feel kinda wasted it…and it was gold tip too…)
result: 1 snapple flavor with a totally separate perfumy creamy yunnan black flavor (blunted by the strong snapple flavor).
this totally does not work.
i dont even think ill try to mix it with anything else, it obviously will block out any real tea taste.

June 14, 2007 at 8:54 pm | Posted in Green Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commentFinally have found you!… green “tea” by snapple… seems to be out on the East coast /NY, not on the west coast (at the time of this review.)
Taste: low-medium flavor of….unknown…+ sweet (the diet version has splenda), some tea flavor (but low)
Overall: disappointing, but not surprised.
no, id not get this. rather drink water, or some coke, sprite, 7up(has too much bubble), pepsi(gives me tummy ache after too many mL.). Ergo, NOT on my FavoriTeas Bottled Tea list
UPDATE: a better tasting (as per my tastebuds) sweet green tea drink is from Gold Peak
emergency alternatives in case of green tea 500mcg EGCG AOX antioxidant withdrawal:
- chew some grass
- eat some leaves
- hump a tree.

this too tastes rather shitty, something like baby-barf wash with some baby soap and window washer mixed in…cant even compare it to the oolong fuze … large gap in product flavor, dont know what the hell happened here.

found at Singapore Banana Leaf (Farmers Market at the Grove). SBL is on my top list of the food court restaurants (wonderful consistent good food and great flavor).
liquor yellow
taste: flavor 3/7 some kind of strange green tea bag concoction… an awful sour powerful astringency hit my tastebuds… it reminds me of aspirin dissolved in water. After it thoroughly numbed my mouth, astringency and other tastes could not be felt like normal, had to rinse my mouth couple times…
no. definitely wouldn’t touch this ever again even if there was no water around.

March 25, 2007 at 6:39 pm | Posted in Green Tea, just green tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 2 Commentsagain, seems like everybody wants to stick their tail into the tea market. Which TJ does due to a desire to lower end product cost to consumer .. 😉 … ? … i think 😛
was happy to see it,
99c /1L ! …maybe because its new to market.
similar bottle with Tejava, except for a green tint and different label.
ive seen ascorbate (vit C) on other tea labels so i thought nothing of it.
opened bottle… oh-oh… smells like lemon … errr
taste: lemon flavor 3/4, tea astringency 1/4 … fudge pack…
i guess someone told them, yeah, mask that shit it dont taste like nothing anyways, just drop a ton of ascorbic acid in the mix, them suckers wont know and we’ll get our money anyway. damnit TJ get some better TEA people.
overall: NO. i like Ito En Japanese Green tea (Oi Ocha) actually tastes good…

product discussion: may want to skip to taste or…
YOU GOT A PROBLEM WITH THAT?!?!
Lets give them a hand. you ever seen anything so cute???!!! gosh, and trying to put it in american stores, they got some ballz. I suppose they have an established base so theyre just trying to see how this fares.
was expecting a mouthfull o’ sugar but its not that bad {(16g/18oz vs snapple 26g/16oz) [its always nice how the US does not adopt the metric system, but marketers use it: what the hell theyre mixing grams with oz for ? obviously because Joe does not know how much 16g is…either use one or the other damnit (not just fuze, but everybody does it)]}.
bunch of bullshit on the label irrelevant to taste but relevant to ‘health nuts’.
taste:
flavor: 4/7 –> something almost sweet, astringency, fruit, apricot?peach?, astringency…tea? kinda, works for me.
not bad, yes., id pick this over snapple’s sugar or bullshit tea’s (oops i mean honest teas)
Teas’ Tea Green White .Ito En
February 17, 2007 at 10:23 am | Posted in Green Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews, White Tea | Leave a commenti dont know… i feel bummed… maybe i got defective tastebuds… but
all the ItoEn bottled teas have tasted the same with minor variations in astringency and intensity…
we have today a bummer of a ‘combination’ of white + green tea
taste of bummer: 3/7, mostly fried oil/roasted flavor, astringency mild, aftertaste minute.
uhm, thanks for not putting any sugars :P, and selling it at whole foods (where by the way most of the bottled teas have sugar). priced at a fabulous $2.03 (incl CA tax).
Premium Iced Tea .Tejava
January 28, 2007 at 5:53 pm | Posted in Assam, Black Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 3 CommentsFound at many supermarkets in California/ Trader Joes in NY, Chicago
good price: ~1.5$/L (compared to $1.8 /0.5L as other RTD teas are priced.)
This is a black tea grown in Java, brewed in California (as per their website).
its unsweetened 😀 yay!, a US made tea that keeps it real!
and look no bullsh*t on the label (sofar) … no ‘organic’ , no ‘all natural’ , no ‘10000mg flavonoids’ 😀 yay #2 !
it does say that there are no preservatives or anything artificial, so that’s good 🙂
Taste: its TEA 🙂 with: moderate astringency first, upon swallow flavor appears as a black tea sort of an assam-ish? flavor with a little specific taste but i dont know of what (fruity?). lingering astringency aftertaste in the back of the throat with a bit of a dryness sensation (as is most black tea astringency.)
Overall: good product, i’d buy it again (i haven’t found another black tea as this one yet).
still going 2009 🙂 Tejava rules 😀
update 3/2010: Noticed at local Trader Joes Tejava pack of .5L bottles (looked like glass bottles too)

January 28, 2007 at 4:59 pm | Posted in Dark oolong, Oolong Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a comment~ $1.80 RTD tea .product of japan. manufactured for Santory LTD.
Found at Mitsuwa market (LA), Sunrise Mart (NY)
…got another oolong. but it turns out its not just another oolong. this time its a bit better…
Taste: same RTD taste (the tannins which quickly give it a astringent? feeling in the mouth) that’s found in itoen products, but the astringency is lower, so this tea is much more pleasant to drink. The oolong flavor is much better and prominent than that found in ItoEn’s product. (IMHO that is).
like the package too, seems more ‘conservative’ than others..
Overall: Good, YES & i’d pick this over the Itoen products. Listed.
Giant Peach Juiced Tea .Tazo
January 16, 2007 at 1:05 am | Posted in Herbal Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commentthirst and curiosity does maketh for new experiences. ~1.95 @ Starbucks, Whole Foods.
“iced green tea with apple & peach juices”
Nice package ofcourse. image found on the internets (not my property).
Lets describe the flavor: fruit juice sweet: perceive flavor of peach * nice good sharp peach flavor, then sweetness, then some minute tangyness (either from the apple or from the peach skin or from green tea). some minor tea flavor.
I’d have a tough time right now choosing between this and Snapple peach… i dont remember the snapple’s detail but i actually think this one (giant peach) has a better flavor than Snapple with more personality, while the snapple emphasizes sweet & bland compared to this.
Green Tea Latte .Hillside Tea
December 29, 2006 at 10:37 pm | Posted in Green Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 5 Commentswho’s ready for a science experiment????!!!
these cans caught my eye at Ralph’s since they were “on sale” 2 for $5
they’re SELF HEATING!!! yay !!! way cool!!!
turn it upside down, press a button to release a chemical, turn it on its side until an indicator turns white, then put it right on the table.
about 5 min later i pop the top and the liquid was HOT HOT HOT!!!
that sounds all dope and shit, but i bought a tea…so how’s it taste???
well i shoulda remembered that one time at band camp when i put milk in green tea – it wasn’t nice – i didn’t enjoy that taste experience. so how’s this?
taste: milky, it has sugar, some tea flavor. don’t know if its the combination with the tea but it tasted like powdered cheap milk concentrate or some shit.
i didn’t like it, only reason to drink it was for the sweet milk, but then the combination with the tea felt nasty.
buy again: NO. i’ll try the other i got- chai latte- keep my fingers crossed for better.
***UPDATE: the other one: chai latte from hillside tea tastes a bit like chai, milk, but it has the same shitty ‘powder milk’ taste that i dont like.

can is already printed in english unlike the plastic bottles which have a sticker attached with english translation.
the can repeats on the “catechin” & “antioxidant” words.
liquor: green (finally. i guess the light-proof can protects from oxidation as well).
taste: smoother than the plastic bottles (oi ocha).
astringency: 2.5/7 tanninic (less than the oi ocha) with a twist of fried oil as usual(less than oi ocha).
flavor: 2.5/7 (less than the oi ocha), mildly green grass …mild…
minor aftertaste.
somewhat disappointed with this product, was expecting a shot of grass-like taste.
size is also annoying.
buy again: no. (would rather get the oi ocha hit me with its astringency).

flavor: 3.5/7 same old friggin fried tea taste, some chocolaty sensations (i think like the pokka can of oolong). more astringency than the can of pokka green tea can i had today.
overall not as strong in flavor/astringency as the ito en oi ocha.

good thing i had notes, otherwise i wouldve rated them all a 1. (%_%) ! ?
flavor 1.5/7 (‘fried’ green tea flavor ~0.5) astringent 2/7, aftertaste 0.
again: no. (id pick itoen green tea bottle, at least i know im paying for some astringency).
Green Tea .UCC
November 4, 2006 at 5:53 pm | Posted in Green Tea, just green tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 3 CommentsHad a fun 15 minutes at Fujiya Market in Silverlake on Virgil, they had couple of ready to drink ‘real’ teas in the fridges. After tasting them, it wasnt too much excitement but at least it wasn’t a totally worthless experience.
Here we have a can of Green Tea made by ‘UCC’ Ueshima Coffee Co of Japan.
Can’s description is not far from the truth as i see it:
“we present: mild body and aroma to you”
maybe being refrigerated numbs my tastebuds but here it is: watery flavor 1.5/7 (I’m exaggerating), astringent 2/7, there is a little tiny sneaky lemon flavor but maybe its just me., aftertaste 0/7.
again: no. I’d choose the Ito En Green Tea bottle over any of these i took today.
Oolong Tea .Pokka
October 20, 2006 at 8:47 pm | Posted in Dark oolong, Oolong Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a comment Found it at Sushi Boy, next to the Ito En green tea cans.
Made by Pokka . can says its made in Singapore under a Japanese license.
Flavor: 3/7. kinda like the bottle of the Ito En Oi Ocha. somewhat distant green taste, fried tea taste, this time a bit of chocolate sensation.
Like the Ito En green tea better.
keep? no.
Summer Peach Iced Tea .Snapple
October 8, 2006 at 1:07 pm | Posted in Herbal Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commenti dont know why its called a tea when it tastes like sweetened fruit juice.
anyways, this or the regular Peach is the only one i would drink if i had to.
taste: sweet, fruit-juice (peach in this case) but not ‘real-fruity’ kind of taste- more like fruit flavor, as for tea – cant feel any tea flavor.
If i have the choice, I like Tazo’s Peach much better, taste more like fruit.
…
i dont even understand why they make the ‘diet’ versions when they put in that disgusting aspartame or other shitty sweeteners. cant they just leave the TEA and fruit? guess not…
.hey, look at that – snapple does make unsweetened ‘tea’ ! its called ‘Just Plain Tea Unsweetened‘ i wonder on what planet they sell it because ive never seen it in stores. Seems the plain unsweetened tea didn’t quite work out for them…
Oi Ocha Japanese Green Tea .Ito En
October 4, 2006 at 8:38 pm | Posted in Green Tea, just green tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 1 Commentfound at Famima!!/Whole Foods/Sunrise Mart(NY)/and other local stores
was ~ $2.03 for .5L bottle. nice packaging. Also available as 2L bottle (which for some reason i did a separate review)
yay! finally found a good un-sugarized bottled tea … strong full flavor ‘pleasantly’ astringent tea taste, tho faintly green, there was some toasty something taste in there … ok… flavor, astringent.
feels over-extracted… leaf kept too long in water. But, better taste than most teabags i’ve tried, not as good as a good looseleaf tea, but its a fast, ready to drink substitute.
Overall: keep-r-us? HELL YES ! and thus started my Bottled Teas list.
wish they’d sell this at Ralphs or Savon or Whole foods…but probably those have exclusive contracts with lipton or some other marketers of sugarized ‘tea’ shit.

October 2, 2006 at 5:35 pm | Posted in Green Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 1 Comment1. sweet taste
2. lemon-citrusy
3. a faint tea flavor .. couldnt say its green… more like black
4. honey
5. a prolonged sweet aftertaste from the ‘sugar’ (splenda)
obviously they only see us wanting sweets… or does the sweet get more re-purchased…
i drank the regulr arizona lemon green tea which is very sweet.
my opinion? : this is CRAP. keep? no. hell NO.
Peach oo-la-long .Honest Tea
September 23, 2006 at 6:51 pm | Posted in Oolong Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | 3 Commentspeach oo-la-long ? ….is this for teenage girls??? oo-la la la?!
‘real tea, real taste, honest’ …not after you taste it.
‘organic oolong tea with peach’ …of course, slap *organic* on everything to sell more of it.
they just couldn’t abstain from pooping in with a little sugar. (1g sugar/30ml, vs coke 1g/8ml)
taste: first you taste something sweet, then a tad flavor of dilute peach, then some tea astringency, then a tiny bit of unidentifiable tea flavor. maybe its some of that shitty cheap ass oolong i had a couple times…
disappointing, and not honest at all.
NO. and boooooo !

September 23, 2006 at 5:29 pm | Posted in Green Tea, RTD Bottled Tea, Tea Reviews | Leave a commenti was at the ikea in Burbank, thirsty, went to the soda machines outside and i press the water bottle button and this thing comes out. … hey green tea! why not … lets try
then this carbonized sugarized liquid emerges and it mangles my taste buds … i don’t see why/HOW they even say green tea when it tastes like goddamn soda. (oh wait i know why. so they can sell their crap).
keep? NO.
