Found this bottle on sale at a local liquor store for about 6$

Smell bourbon? Oak barrel?
Flavor …funky, +black tea flavor! +alcohol, +with a twist of “medicinal”(from my childhood memories) (might be the wine+citrus from the label) mixed with the ETOH

noticeable alcohol (10%)

Overall: imho pretty good; Buy again? yep yep )

4.4g@195′F longbrew/grandpa style

My 4.5year old Tiger got so full of scale deposits it was making the water cloudy, I couldn’t scrape it off and descalers didn’t work anymore. Oh well had to replace it, with what else… but a Zoji !!

Pondered greatly what i should get, same Tiger i had before? Panasonic? or a Zoji?
finally showed photo line-up to wife lady and she picked out the Zoji

Chose this model because not that big in size (i can open the lid under the cabinet) + right price spot for me

Noticeable points so far:

(-) feet are more slippery than the Tiger

(-) 3L room temp water into already warm Zoji takes 30 minutes to boil to 212F
(-) less Watts 700 vs 980

(+) nice LCD display shows the current water/temp inside the pot

(+) more quiet on boiling and on dispensing water, the pump seems muffled ?rubber mounted?

(+) water out the spout is 209F !, and much faster !

(+) better, smart water level window

(+) slightly nicer buttons

And now for some water dispensing action on the iPhone cam !

i must reiterate the following because 2 weeks without a water boiler/thermopot had me going nuts !!!

Why an electric water dispenser?
- no need to clean the pot every time i brew a tea. (except at monthly intervals to remove salt deposits)
- don’t have to run to the kitchen to turn off the a n n o y i n g loud whistle some pots make.
- no messing with pots and pans, fires or hot plates on off, clean wash etc.
- water is always hot (you need to leave it plugged in) = NO WAIT !!!

GOOD. NOW I CAN DRINK TEA AGAIN

Method: eyeball

Flavor: good. tasty, pleasant. low tobacco, a “twist of tangyness”(thats the most i can describe as, maybe something like a sort of greenness), some chocolate. low harshness that increases toward the end of the many steeps= tannin + more of the “twist” towards greenness.

Re-infusionability: high

Leaf: many broken, not many large leaves.

Overall: good, i like, would buy again.

Method: 3g/~3oz water @ 190F x 1 min or 2 min, then reinfused 2 min.

pic#4 here on right is color corrected at the liquor for liquor is pinkish, not yellow.

Taste: first infusion @ 1 min light, better at 2. overall: mild flavor, mild-med aroma, nice flowery fresh jasmine, yet again- light in strength. second infusion is alright, still rather mild in flavor. third infused not much left & watery. Not much astringency no harshness detected @ 3g. Will likely use 6g in the future, 3g not enough for my dull palate.

Overall: not bad, but mild.

Prices: seem good to me, probably close to YSLLC’s, with some margin, shipping seems priced fine ~6$/600g, USPS.

Speed: my order took 4 days to receive, including over weekend.

Package: USPS box, very nicely packed. Some teas in great zip-loc bags some that can stand up, others are in silvery-plastic foil. Pu Beeng was bubble wrapped. no damage sustained.
Did not smell any leaks as i opened the box.

O-cha.com (review)(product link) $24.95/3.5oz(100g), 6.5/oz = $114/lb.

included a comparison with Ocha’s Fukamushi Supreme.

There is a difference ! uh, while i forgot which is which, the one on the left might be the fuka supreme.

Method(s): last used which is not the one depicted above: 5.5g + 4oz @ 155F x 1 min. I do bottle brew these and at one point one of them became less pleasant but i forgot which so what i just said is quite irrelevant…

Liquor: fuka supreme: cloudy, YM: settles quicker and clears up more (not evident in the pics above)

Flavor: YM: nice clean taste, more refined than the fuka supreme, greenish yet not hard grassy, good fukamushi with more of a matcha flavor to it, even this first infusion has a sweetish aftertaste to it.  The fuka supreme is more hard and a bit of a harsher tannin.

Overall: liked both…
